One of the main curatorial events at Arles Cosmos 2018. A series of outdoor & indoor installations and activities that place during the six days of the fair. The aim of this radical curatorial proposition is to revisit Edward Steichen’s original Family of Man exhibition (1955), which, in its time, was described “as one of the most ambitious undertakings in an art museum”. The Family of No Man seeks to replace the visual register of white male dominance inherent in the original project with an inclusive visual platform of how the world is seen today through non-male eyes.

Max Moldau / Mein Bild von mir bin ich nicht

Wir ändern uns laufend. Bilder bleiben. Ich will mich nicht an Selbstporträts binden. Auch meine Arbeit soll nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen. Deshalb suchte ich Darstellungsformen, die meinem kontinuierlichen Wandel gerecht werden. In einer Welt, in der digitale Daten mit Hilfe von Algorithmen ausgewertet werden und nach und nach unsere öffentliche Identität konstituieren, will ich Schutz vor automatischer Zuordnung. In „Sie besitzen nicht die nötigen Berechtigungen, um auf mein Bild zugreifen zu dürfen“ nutze ich entsprechende Symbole und Codierungen des Internets. In „Safe-portraits“ zeige ich protektiv gestaltete Selbstbildnisse. Aber hilft Knoblauch gegen Algorithmen?
